Wannetta Reimer

MSW, BSW, RSW, YCWD

Wannetta started her career in the year of 1998 when she graduated from  the Youth Care Worker Diploma (YCWD) program. Recognizing her passion for helping others, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in 2006.   She commenced her Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2016, focusing on anxiety and clinical counselling with individuals and groups.   She has twenty six years of experience in the human service field.

Throughout her employment, Wannetta has had the privilege of supporting children, youth, adults and families in a wide range of mental health areas.  She also has extensive experience in project coordination, group facilitation, and workshop development and delivery.  In the year of 2009, she started a position as a School Counsellor where she has provided counselling support to children and youth for the past thirteen years. 

Wannetta strives to create a safe, trusting, empathetic and non-judgmental space for individuals.  She is honored when people feel that they can share their story with her in the hope of guidance and personal growth.

Wannetta believes that every person and family is distinct and as such requires support that is catered to their unique situation. She maintains that people have the capacity to make choices in their lives that can lead them to a place of fulfillment and wellness.  As such, she uses an eclectic approach drawing from Systems, Social Learning, Attachment, Cognitive, and Choice Theories to assist people with effective interventions and strategies.

Wannetta undertakes continuous professional development and is knowledgeable in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Problem-Solving Model, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Bibliotherapy, and play-based interventions.  She is an avid reader and her favorite authors to read are Robert Brooks and his work on Resiliency, Daniel Goleman and his writings on Emotional Intelligence, and Ross Greene and his views on Challenging Behavior.
