Hello and a joyful Tuesday to everyone!
It’s already our third week diving into the unique counselling approaches we use at Carters Counselling Services. Let’s take a closer look at Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
DBT is becoming more popular within Saskatchewan, and is proven to be successful for people with personality disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder.
DBT is similar to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, however it is more focused on the emotional and social aspects of life. One of the main goals of DBT is to teach the individual how to live in the present moment and to be mindful of his/her thoughts and feelings.
Learning to regulate your emotions is also a primary component of DBT. DBT teaches people to accept their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and the techniques to change them. Not only are personal skills taught in DBT, but skills for interpersonal relationships are also emphasized.
