Building Stronger Connections Through Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Last week, I attended a two-day training on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)—a powerful approach that supports couples, co-parents, and families in creating deeper, more secure emotional connections.

At Carter’s Counselling, Cassandra and myself use EFT-informed strategies to help clients better understand each other, communicate more clearly, and move out of unhelpful cycles of conflict.

Here are 3 key takeaways from the training:

❤️ 1. Emotions are the heart of connection
Behind every argument or shutdown is often a deeper feeling—fear, loneliness, or longing. EFT helps us tap into those emotions and respond with compassion.

🔄 2. It’s the cycle, not the person
We often get stuck in patterns: one person withdraws, the other pursues. EFT helps identify and change these patterns so couples or families can reconnect.

🛠️ 3. Secure bonds create lasting change
When people feel safe emotionally, they communicate more openly, listen more deeply, and trust more fully.

I’ll be using this training to guide my sessions with couples and co-parents who want to move past conflict and build stronger, more respectful relationships. Whether you’re in a partnership, parenting together, or navigating separation—we’re here to help you connect better.
